Withwomancompany.co.uk is the website for the Withwoman company. Comprising of three sisters who are all themselves, busy professional working mothers, offer a comprehensive range of child care services including nurses and nannies(UK and overseas), one to one parenting classes, photography interior design and more. I went for a more elegant look utilising the fantabulous SiFR (Scalable Inmann Flash Replacement) to use some quality fonts. Some fancy css trickery allowed the use of transparent PNG's to create a movable content area with transparent shadows.
Reversalofvasectomy.co.uk is the website of Dr Raj Persad a consultant Urologist in Bristol. This site was developed to give better visability for his services to reverse Vasectomies.
Weparish.co.uk is the website for West End in Southampton. The Council did not previously have a website and saw an opportunity to close the communication gap between the council and local residents. The council used to release a quarterly newsletter to the community, now they can update their website with news and information on a daily basis. This is a Database driven, custom CMS website. This site is continually evolving with new features and is by no means the final product.
isupport-uk.com was an Apple Authorised Service Centre in Portsmouth. The design was quite simple and used standards based XHTML/CSS. No fancy server side coding on this design, just quality semantic coding and accessible design. After all, not every site needs a content management system.
Update:This is no longer live, as iSupport ltd has closed.
Olliffs.com is a large architectural antique company in bristol and I redesigned their site to fit their need to manage large quantities of products and images on an accessible user friendly platform. This is a PHP MySQL driven antiques site that is updated almost daily through a custom content management system that I wrote entirely for this particular site.
This was redesigned from a table based, 'old skool' coded site that had no update facility or dynamic content. Javascript is implemented unobtrusively into the products detail page to flexibly allow the maximum viewable size of the product images and detail shots with any window size at all times. This allows viewers to get a great image of the product without any annoying popup windows or having to click through to another page to get a detail shot.
R & A Networking Ltd are a small company in southampton specialising in voice and data networks. These guys work all over the UK for major companies, organisations and educational establishments. They are continually growing their business and an accessible, standards compliant web presence was a natural progression.
From a technical perspective, an interesting feature of this site is the tag layout that produces the the header image and logo. No matter how wide you expand the web page the white laser extends from the left edge of the screen without the use of plug ins or script. Neat 'n' tidy cabling, with neat 'n' tidy code.
A total of 1,584 climbers have reached the top of Everest since 1953: at least 185 have died on its slopes. Pretty nerve racking stuff eh? try telling that to Rick who will be ascending the mountain WITHOUT oxygen for charity as well as his personal goals! This is an information site about rick and his expedition. Expect updates and regular information about the expedition over time. Stay tuned...
The Bristol Beer Factory is my css design of a new site for a micro brewery in bristol. The brewery is relatively new and after sampling some of their fine No.7 I had to help them out. The entire site is in a clear CSS layout without a hint of tables and xhtml compliant, of course. Using some short scripts to create the effect of an animated gif I have reduced the size of the index page considerably while allowing the animation to be updated easily. Also a javascript font resizer allows for greater visual accessibility.
Update: This site now has a new redesign that I had no involvement with.
PizzaStop is a new design for a pizza shop in Stockwood. The site is a startup site with the food menu as the primary feature. With promotional advertising and specials on the second page this is a direct online resource for people looking to download the menu and lookup contact information and directions. All css and standards compliant. Perfect pizza, perfect code.
DKSA is a re-design for a Kite Surfing instructor in Hampshire. The site gives information on instruction and location while showcasing some brilliant kitesurfing images in a gallery. An interesting feature on this design is a live wind information widget. It shows the current direction of wind, speed in knots and peak wind speed for the last 24 hours which compliments the specific weather links for the south coast and U.K. as well as links to kitesurfing shops, manufacturers and online forums. The wind widget measurements are from an internet weather station located on the northern tip of the Isle of White, Hampshire, southern U.K. Of course the design is standards compliant CSS and the most wether-proof semantic code I can manage. Surfs up!
Update: This is currently not live, but can still be viewed through this domain
Quixand is a site designed with the specific intention of presenting the web design and implementation skills of its designer Nick Fox...
Here are a few good design related sites that I find informative and relevant...
